Our Story

Giorgios Bakatsias is one of North Carolina’s most prolific restaurateurs and is the innovative force behind a dozen-plus restaurants from Chapel Hill to Raleigh to Wilmington.

Inspired by Giorgios’ love of European and local markets and his connectivity to ingredients and the community, Giorgios Epicurean Market incorporates European charm with global products and local spirit.

“I remember going to the markets in Greece with my mom as a child,” says Giorgios. “It was a beautiful, vibrant place to get lost in the ingredients and connect with the growers and makers.”

From gathering the best ingredients to selecting the perfect bottle of wine, from squeezing fresh juice to mixing the perfect cocktail, our knowledgeable team is here to guide you on a delicious and delightful culinary journey from morning to eve.

Managing Partner and Executive Chef William D’Auvray oversees GEM’s F&B program. Our butcher includes prime grade selections of beef, veal, and pork while our bakery offers classic and nouveau European pastries, bread, and breakfast sandwiches. Our prepared foods range from refreshing, healthy salads to crispy, savory lingue di pizza.
